Porting a toll-free number#
You can port your toll-free number to CurrentClient. Calling works the same as any other port and goes live as soon as the port completes. Texting is also supported, but inbound texting make take a few days to transfer over from your old carrier to us, just like with any other port. During this time, you should still be receiving texts at your old carrier. Outbound texting requires approval from the phone carriers through a toll-free verification process. This is something the phone carrier industry starting requiring in 2024. Once your port completes, we will submit a toll-free verification request on your behalf, and it typically takes between 3-5 business days to be approved. While we wait for that approval, outbound texting will not work unless you have already gone through the toll-free verification process for the number with your current carrier. When you submit a port request to us for a toll-free number, we will reach out to you to see whether the number will need texting.

Your current carrier approves the port
Once approved by your current carrier, the port is scheduled and a port date is provided.
Port completes
On the port date, calling capabilities port over and go live immediately.
Inbound texting transfers
Inbound texting can take up to 2-3 days to transfer over from your current carrier. During this time, you should continue to receive texts at your current carrier.
Outbound texting is ready
If you indicated that the number will need texting, we will submit a toll-free verification request on your behalf to the phone carriers. This takes 3-5 business days to be approved, at which point you will be able to send texts. While we wait on that approval, outbound texting will not work unless the number already had a toll-free verification approval at your current carrier.
